Has anyone on here made the road trip on Mines Road??
I guess it runs from 580 in Livermore along the mountains, then turns into San Antonio Valley Road which basically takes you up the backside of Mt Hamilton where it turns into Mt Hamilton Road, looks like it would be a few hours to make the journey.
just curious if anyone has made this trip

I've gone down a bit from the Lick Observatory but not too far. I know there are some folks from another forum that drive that road more regularly... It looks fun and very long - should make a day out of it sometimes

I've been up to Mt Hammie, but not over to the other end in livermore, just up from SJ.
Lets do it soon!

I was at the Lick Observatory once, it was such a crazy road, switchbacks galore.

I am planning on doing this either March 15 or 16th. Don't know if I want to go thru L:ivermore first and down Mt Hamilton to SJ, or start by going up Mt Hamilton to lIvermore??
decisions decisions, also roywhite, how long of a trip is it??2 hours? or closer to 4?

I've done it so many times. Its a long drive. Make sure if you do it that you like going through backroads or it will be a very long drive. I usually take it from SJ to Livermore.

The Mines and San Antonio Valley Road stretch up the back of Mt. Hamilton is my favorite bit of road in California.

This is deff my favorite drive. Anytime im coming back from SJ and traffic is a backed up, i'll take this route. Not any faster but a hell of lot more fun! Took me about a good 2 hours in my old miata, thats hauling a$$ too. Spend most time in 2nd gear with some 3rd gear runs. Im overdue for this route.

LOL, who is going to go flying off the road and I am sure this also applies to several sections of highway 9?? summit road?? highland road?? or even hiway 1 along the big sur coast?? heck even calaveras or sierra road if you keep it on the road then nobody will need to find you

I was just out that way in a few weeks ago and so wanted to hit that road, but I was in my Xterra loaded for a camping trip and I don't think the dog would've been down for it.
But I was totally psyched to give that road a shot. If anyone's up for a run there, I'm all in!

I'm down to go through there. I say we meet somewhere in San Jose and go up the mountain and take Mines to Livermore etc.

I'm dying to try this road out, but we've been really hard on gas lately so I've been put on gas restriction!! I probably won't be able to convince the boss to give me the OK to go until September or so!

I went up Mt Hamilton on July 3rd, it was an amazing drive. went back down the other side for about 30 minutes, the turns and roads on the back are crazy. There are so many cool picture spots, the pic to the left with the big tree was on the backside. I am heading somewhere for a drive this weekend, but where? If anyone is going for a drive this weekend holler back!!

I'm dragging this one out of the depths because I'm trying to get some of my work friends to get out for a cruise on Mines Road, probably sometime early next year (biggest factor being weather).
I've got 2 guys with bikes and my brother in law with his S2K on board and want to see if I can drum up some more interest. Anyone game? Any ideas on dates?
